In honor of Yom HaAtzmaut, I delivered one of last Sunday's lectures at Midreshet Yom Rishon at YU.
The topic was: 'God Inspired the Kings to Expel the Jews': The Galut Mentality in Halakhah and Hashkafah.' It expresses alot of my feelings about Galut and Israel, as my sabbatical winds down. You can here it Here.

i just am not sure your comparison of american jews to spanish jews is quite complete, especially on a theological/eschatological level.
and there are reasons to be in america, even while belonging to 'rashis school' rather than the abravanels [or abarbanel].
